Exploring the theme of environment, this project brought together the creative work of over 240 young people across five supported housing foyers in east London and Essex.
Over a six-month period young people worked with visiting artists and local arts networks and took part in an arts residential in Dartmoor National Park. Foyer participants created a site-specific installation for Stratford Circus with artist Simon Dicker, and new residents worked with Esther Collins to build a psychological map of the areas in which they lived. Young people produced documentary films, and worked with photographer Lisa Byrne to create textual and photographic pieces based on the environment.
The work was exhibited at Stratford Circus over a one month period, with interpretation activities for visitors. A celebratory evening at the Circus attended by some 300 young people included dance, music, open mike and theatrical performances, as well as film screenings of young people’s work from across the borough.
These projects were supported by the Arts Council (RALP).
